This year 2 semester 2 module aims to provide marine engineering students with the fundamental knowledge and skills for understanding, applying and analyzing the basic concepts of general chemistry, fuel oils and lubrication. A detailed understanding of fuel oils and lubrication is essential for marine engineering to efficiently maintain the ship’s engine and to communicate effectively with the shore staff regarding issues on the engineering equipment on board ships. In principle, an understanding of the basic principles of chemistry is of great importance to all seafarers, enabling them to use technical specifications and follow instructions in their work. In addition to developing knowledge, understanding, skills and competencies, students will also be developing skills essential for working on a ship, namely: their communication skill, critical thinking skills, teamwork, their positive attitude towards others and their ability to being able to work confidently on their own.
