This Year 1 Semester 1 module, Industrial Chemistry (TICHEM), gives an outline of various important processes in chemical process i¬≠¬≠ndustries.  Basic terminology is introduced and the raw materials used for different purposes are discussed.  Unit operations and processes cover the main units where the operations are performed. The chemistry of different chemical processes that take place in industry is discussed. Water treatment, which is one of the key units in any process industry, is discussed in a separate section.  Flow sheet diagrams of important chemical processes like the Solvay process and Sulfuric acid are also studied. Petrochemicals from fractional distillation of crude petroleum are discussed. The module is designed in such a way that it enables students to develop important skills such as observation, problem solving, analysis, ability to apply new learning, as well as generic skills like teamwork.
